Dropbox now offers the ability to share files with friends in Facebook groups. Now, by linking your Facebook and Dropbox accounts, a new option to pluck files directly from your cloud storage will appear when you create new posts on a group’s wall. The files will remain hosted on your Dropbox folder, which should make keeping track of any updates a bit easier. Last month Vimeo turned to Dropbox to integrate seamless file uploads, adding another feather to service’s collaboration-cap. More importantly, these new features could prove to be a shot across the bow at services like Google Drive. Group sharing launches today, and users should see it arrive on their Dropbox and Facebook accounts soon.

Etsy has announced plans to invest over $250,000 on Google Product Listing ads, and offering placement in Google search results for vendors. Google’s Shopping section will be moving to a paid-inclusion model in October, and without ponying up for advertising space Etsy sellers ran the risk of losing out on valuable search traffic. The new investment should help the online retailer, while also lending the firepower necessary to compete with larger, entrenched players like eBay. Etsy’s sponsored advertisements start on October 2nd, and sellers with at least one active listing will be enrolled automatically. As a result of Google’s country-specific restrictions, however, the offering is limited to sellers in the US.

Wikipedia hosts a vast trove of information, but the admitted gender gap amongst the site’s volunteer editors has left many female historical figures out of the digital history books. The Royal Society wants to rectify this: BBC reports that an “edit-a-thon” will be held in London (and online) on October 19th, to celebrate the contributions women have made to science by ensuring that their Wikipedia profiles are comprehensive — or exist at all. Profiles for a few historical figures have been singled out for updates, but the project’s ultimate goal is to improve visibility across the gender divide, and prevent this sort of event from being necessary in the first place.

HP’s new Windows 8 notebooks are geared towards the budget-conscious, but they’ve picked up a few fashion tips from the company’s pricier ultrabook lines. Up first is the Envy m4, a 14-inch notebook with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution display. Its brushed-aluminum chassis borrows heavily from the premium Spectre XT’s design book, albeit adding a bit of girth by way of an optical drive. The m4 will be powered by Intel Ivy Bridge processors, but lacks a solid state drive — there is a 32GB mSATA SSD cache option, however. Entertainment comes in the form of a pair of speakers and a subwoofer bolstered by Beats Audio. Alas, there are no discrete graphics options, which will severely limit the notebook’s gaming prowess. The Envy m4 starts at $899.

HP is also expanding its Sleekbook category with the Pavilion Sleekbook 14 and 15, equipped with 14- and 15.6-inch displays, respectively. They’ve abandoned the simple two-toned color schemes of their Envy Sleekbook predecessors in favor of much brighter hues, but we’ll need to spend some quality time with them to see if the new look works. The 14-inch model will use AMD processors, while the Sleekbook 15 will offer Intel CPUs. The Sleekbook 15 also makes room for a number pad, but the machines are otherwise identical. Both laptops will offer optional Nvidia discrete graphics and up to a terabyte of storage, but the SSD options are once again limited to 32GB mSATA caches. The Pavilion Sleekbook 14 and 15 will start at $499 and $559, respectively. All three notebooks will be available on Oct 26th, with the launch of Windows 8.
