GTA VI: all the news on Rockstar’s next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series

It’s been over a decade and two console generations since GTA V came out, and its sequel is still a work in progress. GTA VI has faced multiple delays, with developer Rockstar Games bumping back its predicted release date twice, eventually shifting to November 19th, 2026, a full year after its originally planned fall 2025 release window. Early official glimpses offered a look at the game’s protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who players will navigate around Vice City as outlaws on the run after a job goes south.

Preorders have opened for the digital code-only game, offering the $79.99 standard edition and $99.99 Ultimate Edition on both PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.

Rockstar Games has also responded to “CyberLeek” posts that showed sequences of the game, calling them heartbreaking and saying, “…this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.” At about the same time, the leakers released yet another clip.

Now a half-hour “extended look” has arrived full of gameplay slices and cutscenes that’s available for viewing on Netflix, as well as all over other social media channels in reaction videos before it hits YouTube at 9PM — here are some of our first impressions.

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026: The biggest announcements and trailers

The Geoff Keighley-hosted Opening Night Live event at Gamescom just wrapped up. Arguably the biggest announcement was the closer: a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt Red that’s launching in September. But the show also featured a bunch of trailers for others games, including Gears of War: E-Day, Capcom’s upcoming Mega Man sidescroller, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

The event took place ahead of a potentially very big fall for the games industry. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on November 19th, and the rest of the games industry is largely steering clear of GTA VI’s launch. That means the next several weeks are packed with major releases — and the calendar just got even busier with the Witcher 3 remaster. GTA VI wasn’t shown, but that’s not really a surprise: that game is set to have a reveal event of its own on Thursday.

Xbox’s ‘reset’: all the news about Microsoft’s layoffs and studio changes

Xbox is making some big changes — again. On June 10th, a few months after Asha Sharma took over as CEO, she and newly promoted chief content officer Matt Booty sent a memo to staff warning of an “Xbox reset.” The business, they said, is facing significant challenges, including a 3 percent “accountability margin,” massively higher component prices for consoles due to the memory and storage shortage, and an “over extended” studio system.

On July 6th, the company announced mass layoffs at Xbox as part of broader cuts across the company. About 1,600 staffers were laid off that day, with 1,600 more set to be cut over the course of Microsoft’s next fiscal year, Sharma said.

South of Midnight developer Compulsion Games and Psychonauts creator Double Fine Productions will become independent again, while Senua developer Ninja Theory and State of Decay 3 maker Undead Labs will get new owners. In addition, management at Blade developer Arkane Studios is “beginning required consultation with its Works Council to review potential strategic options,” Sharma said.

Sharma noted that there will also be changes at “Activision, Bethesda/ZeniMax, Blizzard, King, Mojang, and XBOX Game Studios” that will “vary in size.” That reportedly includes cutting around half of Doom developer id Software’s staff.

Under Sharma’s leadership, Xbox has already made some other major changes, including upcoming price hikes for Xbox consoles, lowering Game Pass prices but cutting out new Call of Duty games, rebranding Xbox to XBOX, and making both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution Xbox console exclusives.

Get ready for some gaming news. It’s officially June, which means splashy new events from PlayStation, Xbox, gaming hype man Geoff Keighley, and more.

PlayStation kicked things off with a big event that was mostly about premium single-player games like the new God of War Laufey — a statement from PlayStation that it’s getting back to what it’s good at. At Summer Game Fest Live on Friday, the biggest news was Final Fantasy VII Revelation, but we also got announcements of a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake and a January 15th release date for RGG Studio’s Stranger Than Heaven. And during Xbox’s show, Microsoft announced that two upcoming games would be console exclusives: Gears of War: E-Day in October and Clockwork Revolution in 2027.

Humans haven’t set foot on the Moon since NASA’s Apollo 17 mission in 1972. Now, the space agency is racing to get back to the lunar surface under the umbrella of its Artemis program — a nod to the Greek goddess and twin sister of Apollo, whose name was given to NASA’s first program to send humans to the Moon.

The program has been plagued by years of delays, development mishaps, and billions of dollars in budget overruns, but the mission is unquestionably ambitious. The goal of Artemis is to create a sustainable presence near the Moon, instead of just sending humans to plant flags and make footprints. The agency also aims to send the first woman to the Moon through the Artemis program.

Artemis I successfully completed its uncrewed mission in 2022. On April 2nd, 2026, Artemis II launched from Kennedy Space Center carrying four astronauts in its Orion capsule to travel around the Moon before returning to Earth 10 days later, testing out the systems that could soon see humans standing on the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years in 2028, on Artemis IV. But for now, the next step is Artemis III, a low-Earth orbit mission planned for 2027.

Death. Taxes. All your streaming services getting a little more expensive all the time. These are the new certainties in life, it seems.

Netflix has raised the cost of its subscription repeatedly in recent years. Disney Plus, Prime Video, HBO Max, Paramount Plus, Peacock — practically any service you can name — charges more per month than it did a few years ago, and many of them have introduced ad breaks. As customers cancel cable more quickly than anyone expected, the studios and distributors are looking for a way to make up the lost revenue. Good shows, live sports, and movies are more in demand — and thus more expensive — than ever.

And after a decade of spending money like it was going out of style because all investors cared about were subscriber numbers, companies are looking for any way they can to improve their bottom line.
