Another San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone, and while there were no explosive reveals like last year's surprise appearance of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, there were quite a few interesting developments. That includes several Star Trek spinoffs, a new sci-fi show on Apple TV Plus, trailers for everything from Peacemaker to Gen V, and a surprising amount of Stephen King.

Here’s your first look at Amazon’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza

Kiryu is getting a live-action makeover very soon. At Comic-Con today, Amazon revealed the first look at its upcoming adaptation of the Yakuza game series, with the show Like a Dragon: Yakuza (not to be confused with the game Yakuza: Like a Dragon). The streaming series will follow original Yakuza hero Kazuma Kiryu.

Amazon says that the show "showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore." Kiryu will be played by Ryoma Takeuchi, while Kento Kaku also starts as Akira Nishikiyama. The series is directed by Masaharu Take.

Junji Ito’s terrifying Uzumaki hits Adult Swim in September

Adult Swim's long-awaited adaptation of Uzumaki finally has a premiere date - and an appropriately creepy trailer. The series, based on the classic horror manga from Junji Ito, will start airing on September 28th. Episodes will hit Adult Swim first, and then stream on Max the following day.

Uzumaki follows a cursed town that is - and I promise it's scarier than it sounds - plagued by spirals. Here's the full synopsis:

A new Doctor Who spinoff series is coming to Disney Plus

The Doctor Who franchise is about to get even bigger with a new spinoff series that, interestingly, doesn't seem like it's going to focus on everyone's favorite Time Lord.

During the Doctor Who panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Disney and the BBC announced that The War Between The Land And The Sea - a new series written by Russell T. Davies and Pete McTighe - is on the way. Rather than the Doctor, the new show will revolve around a group of humans as they work together to face the Sea Devils, a race of ancient, ocean-dwelling creatures who first appeared in Doctor Who back in 1972.

Peacock’s horror thriller Teacup starts streaming in October

It looks like Peacock is getting a solid dose of horror very soon. At San Diego Comic-Con, the streamer showed off a very brief teaser for its upcoming thriller series Teacup, while also confirming that it will start streaming in October.

According to Peacock, the show "follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive." It's helmed by showrunner Ian McCulloch - best known as a producer on the Western hit Yellowstone - and based on the novel Stinger by Robert McCammon. Paramount Plus dropped its big Star Trek crossover episode early, and it’s a delight

There might not be any actors or big casting announcements at San Diego Comic-Con this year, but Paramount Plus did find one way to surprise fans. It's dropping the next episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds five days early. The episode also happens to be the very anticipated crossover episode featuring the live-action version of some of the cast of Star Trek: Lower Decks. Having already seen this episode, I can confirm this is all exactly as delightful as it sounds.

The first animated movie from Avatar Studios, the team Nickelodeon set up to work on movies and shows in the Last Airbender universe, will feature Avatar Aang and his friends, according to an announcement made during San Diego Comic-Con (via Gizmodo). While there's no word on casting or a story synopsis yet, some fans have expressed excitement over the possibility of getting to see Team Avatar - made up of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Suki, and, of course, Appa - in something new.

Comic-Con is a hectic event, and that's true even if you're just trying to follow along from home. There are so many panels and announcements that it can be hard to see everything. That was definitely true of this year's edition. Despite some noticeable absences - there was no real news on Severance season 2, sadly - it still included everything from a reveal for the Dungeons & Dragons movie to a deeper look at Amazon's take on Lord of the Rings. We also got some Star Wars casting news, info on Marvel's animated slate, the timeline for Phase 5 (and Phase 6!) of the MCU, confirmation of a new Daredevil series, and oh so many zombies.
