<p><em>The Handmaid's Tale</em> is Hulu's flagship original series, and it might be getting even bigger, thanks to <em>The Testaments,</em> <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2018/11/28/18116012/handmaids-tale-sequel-margaret-atwood-the-testaments">Margaret Atwood's upcoming sequel</a> to the original novel that inspired the series. <p>Most plot details about <em>The Testaments</em> (which will be published September 10th) are still under wraps, but we do know that the novel is set 15 years after the ending of the first book, and  is narrated by three female characters. <p><a href="https://www.hulu.com/live-tv">Hulu</a> announced this morning that it is renewing its dystopian television show<em> </em><a href="https://www.hulu.com/the-handmaids-tale"><em>The Handmaid's Tale</em></a> for a third season.</p>
<p>The show is based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel by the same name, which depicts a totalitarian theocracy called the Republic of Gilead, in which women are stripped of their rights and turned into sexual slaves called Handmaids. The show's first season largely followed the events of the novel, but the second season has started introducing new storylines and locations not seen in the original text.</p>

<p><em>The Handmaid's Tale</em> is a difficult show to appreciate right now. After following the plot of Margaret Atwood's 1985 book in its first season, its second season piles on a series of additional horrors, all set in the future nation of Gilead -  a religious theocracy that kills and tortures women who refuse to submit to male ownership.
