Philip Pullman's epic fantasy trilogy is being adapted for the small screen. Variety reports that BBC One is now working on an eight-part TV series based on His Dark Materials. Pullman is already attached as an executive producer, and he's developing the series with New Line Cinema and Bad Wolf, the production company from the execs behind Doctor Who.

"It's been a constant source of pleasure to me to see this story adapted to different forms and presented in different media," said Pullman in a statement. "It's been a radio play, a stage play, a film, an audiobook, a graphic novel - and now comes this version for television."
