Dell’s five-inch Streak was a head-scratcher from day one -- perhaps uncomfortably large for a smartphone and perhaps too small for a tablet, it nonetheless ushered in an intriguing new Android form factor. Today, however, Dell’s formally discontinued the original Streak 5, and without introducing a direct successor to the device. It wasn’t the first slate you’d be embarrassed to hold up to your ear (remember the HTC Advantage?) nor the last likely to see release (we’re eager to try Acer’s Iconia Smart) but it seems like seven inches is the new sweet spot for portable slates, while smartphones are pushing the boundaries of usability at around 4.5.
