Version History

Version History is a show about the best gadgets ever. And the worst ones. And the ones that might have changed the world, if they ever actually shipped. Every week, your favorite people from The Verge and beyond hang out to tell and debate the story of a gadget, app, website, or any other tech product, and try to determine the item’s true legacy. Because not every product is a hit, but every product has a story. And the ones that really matter aren’t always the ones you think.

It’s smart home season on Version History.

We’re recording the next six episodes of Version History next week, and I’d love your input on all of them! We want to feature your stories and memories and try to answer your questions. Here are the next six episodes, all related to the smart home:

  • The Nest thermostat
  • The Clapper
  • The Harmony remote
  • The Hue lights
  • The Roomba
  • The Keurig

If any of those spark any kind of reaction, tell me! I’m [email protected], and you can also call the hotline at 866-VERGE11. Make sure you subscribe to get all the new episodes as soon as they drop. Thanks in advance!

Furby: kind of sneakily an AI story.

The third season of Version History kicked off this weekend, and I can confidently tell you it’s the first time that research has required me to spend several hours on Geocities. Such was the toy world in 1998! Furby is a story of technology, of toys, and of human-gadget philosophy. It’s a really fun episode — subscribe wherever you get podcasts, or watch the full episode on the new Version History YouTube channel.

Version History season three starts this weekend!

For the next six Sundays, we have stories about tech we talk to… and tech that talks back. We’re starting with Furby, which is truly one of the wildest episodes we’ve done yet. Here’s how to get all things Version History going forward:

Also, we’re already scheming for next season — tell us what stories you want to hear!

Version History season two starts this weekend!

We’re doing Google Glass for the first episode back. I cannot believe how many feelings I still have about Google Glass, all these years after I took them off for the last time. Quick PSA: now that our first eight-episode run is over, we’re no longer publishing every episode on the Vergecast feed. If you want to make sure you get every episode when it drops, here’s a few ways to do so:

Season two of Version History is coming, and we want your help.

Thanks to everyone who has listened and watched and given us feedback on the first episodes! We’re refining the Version History Questions, tweaking the Hall of Fame, and more. We’re also about to start production on the next six episodes. Here they are:

  • Google Glass
  • iPhone 4
  • TiVo
  • Flappy Bird
  • Nintendo Power Glove
  • AOL Instant Messenger

And we want to hear from you in every episode. Do you have questions / memories / funny stories to share? If so, call the Vergecast Hotline at 866-VERGE11, or send us emails at [email protected]. (We’re also working on a way to send us videos... more on that soon.) The new season kicks off in a few weeks — make sure you subscribe to not miss a thing.

We’re launching a new show!

It’s called Version History. It’s sort of a history show meets a rewatch podcast: we’re going to tell the stories behind the most interesting tech products ever, and also just hang out and talk about whether we owned a Zune or could successfully ride a hoverboard.

The show launches Sunday, October 5th. You’ll be able to get the first eight-episode season on The Verge’s YouTube channel or on The Vergecast’s podcast feed, but if I might make one request, please also subscribe to Version History wherever you get podcasts. This show has been so much fun to make, and I think you’re going to like it.
