The Boxee Box is about to become a serious option for cord-cutters: Boxee CEO Avner Ronen just announced the Live TV adaptor, which will let you plug in an antenna or basic unencrypted cable and watch broadcast networks like NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox. Program guide information is integrated right into the Boxee UI, but there's no DVR functionality; Avner says that could come later if enough users want it. The Live TV stick will also only work with the Boxee Box — not the PC and Mac versions of the software. It'll ship in January, and pre-orders are open now.

Limitations aside, we’re intrigued: it’s the first move we’ve seen by any company to go directly after the cable TV market in a real way with integrated live TV, and really the first time we’ve seen any company bet on the fact that all the major networks broadcast in HD over the air.
