The Tablet S, Sony's rolled-up magazine of an Android tablet, has received a £50 price cut in the UK, amid what we're hearing are disappointing sales. It launched in September at £399 for a 16GB Wi-Fi-only model and £479 for its 32GB sibling, but as of today, the pair are listed at £349 and £429, respectively, on the Sony Store website. The 3G-equipped 16GB model that started out at £499 doesn't have a price attached to it at the moment and isn't available for purchase.

Sony is clearly feeling the pressure of competing in the iPad-dominated tablet market, and things aren’t going to get any easier this month as the aggressively priced Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition from Motorola roll into town. The smaller of those slates, at 8.2 inches, costs £329.99, while the bigger is £379.99, meaning that Sony’s repriced 16GB Tablet S now sits squarely in between them with its new £349 sticker. Is that enough to tempt the bargain-loving crowd back into Sony’s embrace? Let’s see.
