Samsung recently announced the dual-core Exynos 4212, a low-power, more efficient successor to the SoC powering its Galaxy S II line of phones, and now there’s indication that there could be a quad-core Exynos on the way. It’s just been discovered that a line of code was added in October to the Linux Samsung kernel tree to support the “new EXYNOS4412 SoC” which has an “ARM Cortex A9 quad-core” aboard. Although we don’t have any further confirmation at this time, there’s little doubt Samsung is preparing a quad-core chip of some sort to compete with the Tegra 3 SoC which will be featured on the forthcoming Asus Transformer Prime and several other rumored tablets and smartphones.
