Just a few days after users spotted a change in their Twitter.com Timeline, it looks like Twitter’s testing a new feature in its search engine. A few users noticed that when they searched for a news story or a person’s name, a box appeared at the top of the results displaying “Top News” and a popular story about the query, or “Top People” with a link to a relevant person’s Twitter profile. Twitter seems well-qualified to make these editorial decisions based on retweets of stories or followers of particular people, but it also looks primed for that “Promoted” tag Twitter’s growing so fond of. As usual with Twitter, it’s a limited test for only a few users, but look for it in your results soon.
