Apple’s redesigned flagship Fifth Avenue store was unveiled today after months of construction and now uses far fewer panes of glass (15, down from nearly 90). The results are quite staggering. What’s especially impressive is that the 24/7 store never closed during the renovations — even though it was shrouded in plywood. While the original cube made quite a statement, the new design really does blend in well with the sky around it. Apple’s renovations, which included a refresh of the surrounding plaza as well, reportedly cost $6.7 million — nearly as much as its original construction.
