Roku released an iPhone app today, a day after teasing us with a software update that supported it. The app lets you control any of Roku’s media streamers, and looks like a much easier way to navigate the interface than the endless up-down-left-right thumbing normally required. You can see a list of channels in the app, and tap to launch one; you can also quickly add and remove channels, and even control multiple Roku boxes from a single iPhone, as long as everything’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The regular directional navigation is all gesture-based, which means you don’t have to look down as you’re moving around. The free app requires the latest software version (4.2 or 3.1, depending on which box you have), so make sure everything’s up to date before you get going. Afterwards, feel free to bury your Roku remote deep in the couch cushions, never to be seen again.
