An update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE has been announced by Verizon, which will add Samsung’s TouchWiz skin to the tablet.

Despite showing a version of TouchWiz for Honeycomb at CTIA earlier this year, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 ultimately shipped with an almost stock version of Android 3.0, with the skin promised later. An update for the device is now listed as “Coming Soon” on the Verizon website, and while it’s not the Ice Cream Sandwich update (that’s due sometime after Q1 next year), it does bring Samsung’s UI tweaks to the tablet.

Named EL01, the most prominent change looks to be the dock-like Mini Apps Tray that allows quick access to 6 applications from anywhere in the OS. There’s also a social networking widget and an improved quick settings panel. Samsung’s added a photo editing app, though it doesn’t look too powerful, and news source The Daily’s app is now loaded onto the device. A number of the stock apps have been given Samsung’s coat of paint, including the Music and Video players.

Outside of the UI changes there are a few improvements behind the scenes. The Tab now supports DivX video along with Bluetooth 3.0 and Samsung’s AllShare DLNA solution. Unless you’re desperate to keep your Tab’s almost-stock Honeycomb, the upgrade will be available over-the-air soon, though at 351MB we’d recommend performing it over a Wi-Fi connection.
