Google has pulled the download for its official Java-based Symbian Gmail client, leaving Symbian users in the dark for proper Gmail support. The client hasn’t been updated in two years, and Google’s own mobile page doesn’t show Gmail listed in the S60 apps section. The link to the Symbian Gmail app now leads users to a bare-bones web client which lacks support for basic stuff like images and rich text. We can’t know for sure if Google’s canned Gmail support for Symbian without an official announcement of some kind, but it wouldn’t be terribly surprising; Google cut off Gmail app support for BlackBerry on November 22nd. And if BlackBerry’s not juicy enough for its own Gmail app, Symbian doesn’t stand much of a chance.
