The human body and antennas are longstanding enemies, but some researchers at Ohio State University have walked directly into the fray and figured out how to sew high-range antennas directly into clothing. Their solution is to surround the body with four antennas (back, chest, shoulders) and switch between those antennas automatically using a small control computer. The antennas themselves are brass etched into a flexible plastic film, and right now the entire setup costs around $200 -- with mass production hopefully driving prices significantly down. Range is supposed to be over four times that of a traditional whip antenna used in the military. The next step? Making these antennas fashionable.
