Nikon’s taken its sweet time readying an all-weather point and shoot, but this is the magic month -- as part of the company’s traditional August camera refresh, it’s introducing the world to the CoolPix AW100. Nikon Rumors discovered a press release (dated August 24th) that tells we’re looking at the typical freezeproof, waterproof and shock resistant housing with a 16 megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor inside, connected to a 5x zoom lens suitable for wide angle and telephoto snapshots alike. There’s also in-camera HDR processing, GPS geotagging, vibration reduction and a 1080p video mode with stereo sound. Sounds’s like you’ll be paying a pretty penny for the pleasure, though -- the press release says it’s due to ship in early September for $379.95.
