Not the most exciting of announcements from today — not by a long shot — but Amazon's $79 Kindle "classic" ($109 without special offers) is certainly a radical departure from its ancestry. Thin, light, great viewing angles. The keyboard is a pop-up screen that requires you to thumb through with the d-pad — not the quickest of options, but that's the give and take when you're saving physical space on the device. There will be, of course, official cases with felt covers and -- as with the third-generation Kindle before it -- an optional built-in reading light.
