We had a chance today to spend some time with the new MiFi 4620L for Verizon, Novatel’s take on the new Jetpack brand. In a significant step-up from its predecessors, the unit now includes a miniature OLED display, which gives you access to settings and device information without having to refer to the manual and decipher the colored lights of its predecessors. It’s also capable of showing any SMS messages received, meaning that any warnings about your data allowance will show on the display. In practice, it’s really easy to use — it’s responsive, with no lag navigating menus, and makes troubleshooting far less frustrating.

On top of this, Novatel also showed us an extended battery for the Jetpack, which ups the power to 3000mAh from the stock 1500mAh, which the company says will up the life of the device to eight hours. Despite this increase, it’s not substantially thicker than the stock battery, as shown in our gallery below. It’s set to launch shortly after the MiFi — and we’re still waiting for Verizon to confirm when that’ll be.
