NFC technology isn't as big in the US as it is in other regions, so it's probably not clear to the average consumer which devices have it — to help with that, Visa just announced a list of smartphones that are compatible with its payWave NFC mobile payment system. The initial lineup includes the LG Optimus Net NFC, Samsung Galaxy S II, BlackBerry Bold 9790, Bold 9900, Curve 9380, and the Curve 9360. The phones run Visa's payWave app on a secure SIM card, so it doesn't seem like enabling payWave is a matter of simply installing a program on a phone with NFC. But Visa says that there are around 30 million NFC-enabled Visa cards across Europe, and with growing adoption in the US it's a good bet that the payment behemoth will work hard on getting more devices certified.
