We guessed that MakerBot Industries would be unveiling a new 3D printer for CES, but now an official blog post has divulged the specifics of their Replicator. This successor to the Thing-O-Matic has a larger printing space — about the size of a loaf of bread — and is capable of printing in two different colors or possibly even materials at the same time. The Replicator is currently available for pre-order, and will cost $1,749 fully assembled (compared to $2,400 for the assembled Thing-O-Matic); the two-color model is $1,999. It accepts either ABS, the plastic used in Legos, or biodegradable, corn-based PLA. Like its predecessors, the Replicator is also open-source.
