Microsoft’s Surface may be getting all the attention this week, but that isn’t stopping other companies from getting into the tablet game: Best Buy is planning to release one next month under its in-house Insignia brand. According to a post on Insignia’s Facebook page, the tablet will go by the name Insignia Flex, and will feature a 9.7-inch screen, a dual-core 1GHz processor, and 10 hours of battery life. It’s not clear yet if the tablet will be Wi-Fi only, but those hoping for Jelly Bean will be in for a disappointment; the Flex will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at launch.
Best Buy launching Insignia Flex tablet next month, reportedly priced between $239 to $259

While official pricing hasn’t yet been made available, Reuters reports today that Best Buy will be selling the tablet for between $239 to $259. That pricing would put the device in an interesting position — cheaper than both the $399 iPad 2 and the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD, which retails for $299. Of course, it’s not clear how the tablet will actually stack up against those two offerings — to say nothing of the iPad variant Apple has in store for October 23rd. In any case, we’ll know more when the Insignia Flex hits retail shelves on November 11th.
