Apple’s iPad mini event involved a few surprises, as the company also announced a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display and a new iMac that’s dramatically thinner. It was a big event, even by Apple’s standards, and the unusual choice to hold it at the historic California Theater in San Jose gave it a dramatic, electric feel — a sense enhanced by the tight quarters for the collected press desperate to get photos and videos in the demo area.
