Eight months ago, a Minecraft modeler known as “Ramses” embarked on a bold mission to build a full-scale reproduction of Azeroth, block by block. Now, his “Crafting Azeroth” project has finally entered beta, and it looks pretty impressive. The modder unveiled the map on Reddit Sunday, explaining that the World of Warcraft environment was recreated using a “heavily automated” process and custom-built software.

In an interview with VentureBeat earlier this year, Ramses said the project was borne out of his own passion for the Warcraft series, and a hope that the finished project “would impress fans from both games.” He also noted that while others have already ported game content over to Minecraft, few have attempted to do so on such a large scale; the beta mod unveiled Friday weighs in at 2.17 GB.
