RIM’s new wave of smartphones will be sold on the UK’s top three carriers. EE (which encompasses both T-mobile and Orange), O2, Vodafone, and Three have all announced they intend to carry BB10 handsets early next year. BlackBerry is still a popular brand in the UK, especially among teenagers, so the unilateral support doesn’t come as a huge surprise: statistics from last year showed that RIM held 24 percent of the UK smartphone market, a figure that rose to 37 percent for teens.
UK carriers pledge support for BB10 despite global concerns
While those numbers may have dropped now, as they have worldwide, use is still higher than other developed markets. RIM may struggle to gather such bold support in other markets, and no US carrier has made any announcements regarding BB10 yet.
