Nintendo Wii U finally goes on sale in Japan

Nintendo’s Wii U sold 400,000 units in its first week of US availability, and now the company has opened the console up to another market that can help boost sales: Japan. The gaming console, which went on sale just hours ago in Japan, is available in two different flavors. The white standard model retails for ¥26,250 (approximately $319), and comes with 8GB of internal storage. At ¥31,500 (around $382), the black premium model costs a little but more, but for that extra outlay users will get a bump up to 32GB of storage. The staggered rollout is nothing new for Nintendo — it took the same approach with the original Wii — but it marks an important milestone in the introduction of the company’s new console. Of course, if you’re still deciding if the Wii U is the right fit for you, you can always check out our recent review.
