With two weeks left to go before Mobile World Congress, Acer has announced a new phone it says will be its flagship design. The Acer CloudMobile will be the first phone to support the AcerCloud connection service, and will have a 4.3-inch HD display. According to Pocket-Lint, it may ship with Android 4.0, and is slated for release in late 2012.

The announcement was precipitated by the CloudMobile receiving an iF Product Design Award, which is given to outstanding commercial products every year. The Acer phone is listed as the S500 in the design awards, where it’s touted as having a 9.9mm-thick form factor, Dolby speaker plate, and textured back. Acer has regularly showed up in iF awards lists, but its phones aren’t as well-known as bigger brands like Samsung or HTC, so we’ll have to see if the apparently outstanding design is enough to get people to switch from more established mobile brands. We don’t have much more information on the phone, but we’ll be sure to get the full specs when it’s formally unveiled at MWC.
