Samsung has been pushing its smart TVs pretty hard, and now it says it expects half of its flat-screen TV sales in 2012 to be models with internet connections and increased interactivity. The company’s television head, Kim Hyun-Suk, told reporters that he projects Samsung will sell 50 million flat-screen TVs worldwide this year, of which 25 million will be “smart” models. Samsung’s projection is slightly higher than the one it made in 2011, when it expected to sell 45 million flat-screen TVs. The company introduced a line of new TVs at CES with voice and motion controls, and there’s still a planned Google TV to come, so we’ll see if the company hits its projection because of consumer demand or because all its TVs are getting smarter, just as 3DTV sales have increased despite a general lack of content.
