Even during the Super Bowl, people can’t seem to put down their phones. Both AT&T and Verizon saw significant jumps in data usage over Super Bowl Sunday, suggesting that people were as concerned about tweeting as they were about watching the Patriots lose. At Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, 215 GBs of data were used by AT&T customers, who also made 74,204 calls and sent 722,296 texts. Verizon’s network, meanwhile, saw 2.75 times more data usage in Indianapolis compared to last year’s Super Bowl in Dallas. And across Verizon’s national network, twice as many people watched the game on NFL Mobile than watched the highest rated regular season game all year long. Viewership also increased throughout the game, with the highest ratings occurring during the last two minutes. It wasn’t all about football, though, as people managed to tweet 10,245 times per second during Madonna’s half time performance.
