We already knew that a Metro style version of Firefox was in the works, and now Google has confirmed that it’s working on a version of Chrome for the platform. Speaking to Mashable, a Google rep explained that the new version of the browser will work for both the desktop and Metro versions of Windows 8. This would put Chrome into the newly revealed third category of Windows 8 apps — Metro style enabled desktop browsers, which are single apps that can work in both environments. Google didn’t reveal much about what we can expect from the Windows 8 version of Chrome, but it will be based on the desktop version of the browser instead of the Android version, and will include improved touch support. We’re not quite sure when the browser will be available, so the million or so of you in the Consumer Preview will have to stick with Internet Explorer for now.
