If you want to watch some classic 60s nostalgia in the highest resolution possible, the new remaster of Yellow Submarine might do the trick. The Beatles’ ode to “peace, love, and hope” (and possibly illicit substances) has been restored in 4K resolution and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 29th. Due to the age of the original film (Yellow Submarine was originally released in 1968) and the delicacy of the hand-drawn artwork, each individual frame was restored by hand by Triage Motion Picture Service and Eque Inc. And while there’s no way to play anything in 4K resolution yet, The Beatles’ classic film should be futureproof and easily converted to future formats for future generations to enjoy. If the re-release of this out-of-print movie isn’t enough, The Beatles are also releasing a new hardcover edition of the Yellow Submarine book on April 24th (though iTunes has offered the digital version for free for several months now), and the film’s soundtrack album will be reissued on CD the same day as the movie’s release.
