Google Maps has had 3D buildings for some time now, but many of the models have been, shall we say, less than realistic. Google’s taking steps to correct that, announcing that it has added more than a thousand new 3D models for landmarks across the world — all featuring higher-quality virtual renderings. While it’s not a revolutionary shift, it is a notable iterative improvement for users, and with mapping looming as a potential battleground we’re happy to see the update. The new models are currently live on the standard Google Maps website and will be coming soon to Google MapsGL, though no information was provided about when the new models can be expected to arrive on the Google Maps app for Android.
