Toshiba updates Satellite P and L laptop series for Q2

As part of a massive update to its laptops, televisions, and peripherals, Toshiba has announced that it will be revamping its Satellite P and L series in the coming months. As with the Qosmio gaming laptop, the company has declined to provide pricing for its new computers, nor has it given us any information about the processors we’ll be seeing. Other than that, however, we’ve got our first look at what seems like a relatively incremental update to Toshiba’s current laptops.

The high-end Satellite P series, pictured on top, has carried over most of the features from its last iteration, including Blu-ray, a high-definition screen (although we’re not given any resolution), and optional 3D on the 15.6-inch Satellite P850 and P855. Unlike last year’s P series laptops, however, the new models will include Toshiba’s glasses-free 3D instead of active shutter displays. The company will also be offering a pair of 17.3-inch models — the P875 and P870 — which will not come with 3D. All P series laptops will have the option of a 1TB hard drive or smaller HDD / SSD hybrid.

The more varied L series will come in 13.3-inch, 15.6-inch, and 17.3-inch options and will let users pick between Intel and AMD processors. Screen resolution will range between 1366 x 768 to 1600 x 900 without any 3D options, although models with Blu-ray installed will be able to output 3D content over HDMI. Besides screen size and resolution, the major difference between models seems to be minor variations in finish color, but we’re still holding out for (possibly Ivy Bridge) processor details. Both the P and L series will be released sometime in the second quarter of 2012.
