GitHub adds support for ‘0x10c,’ the new game from ‘Minecraft’ creator Notch

This time last week, Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson announced his new game 0x10c, a space exploration simulator where players have to program their craft’s DCPU-16 CPU in order to navigate through the galaxies. Now, open source code repository GitHub has announced that it has added support for the DCPU-16 Assembly language — the code used to send instructions to the CPU — to its site, allowing users to share code snippets and write other software which uses the files.

The appeal is obvious, and GitHub hopes that players will take to the site to share strategies and collaborate on creating the ultimate balance of power and efficiency. It’s a big move by GitHub, and is the first time that a language inside of a game has caught the attentions of a major development tool — this is especially notable considering 0x10c is still in its infancy. However, with the momentum that Minecraft gained, it’s hardly surprising that other companies are looking to jump on Notch’s bandwagon.
