Windows Phone marketing manager quits after five months

Microsoft’s general manager of Windows Phone Product Marketing has quit the role following a five month stint. Gavin Kim previously worked at Samsung before joining Microsoft in November to head up the company’s marketing efforts for Windows Phone. His responsibilities included winning “the hearts and minds of consumers, carriers, device manufacturers, developers and partners,” according to a BGR interview with Kim at the time.

Microsoft confirmed Kim’s departure in a statement issued last week, revealing that it was his own personal decision to leave. “We feel very good about the work he has done to set the team, and its new lead Eugene Ho, up for success. We wish him all the best,” said a Microsoft spokesperson. The software maker has been slowly ramping up its marketing efforts with Windows Phone, scoring a hero device status at AT&T for the recently released Nokia Lumia 900. It’s too early to say whether promotions like Smoked by Windows Phone have paid off, but early Lumia 900 sales signs appear to show some much needed interest in Microsoft’s mobile operating system.
