Last November Google announced that it would slowly be shutting down a number of services, and today is the day for Google Wave. The real-time editing service has been read-only since the end of January — so users couldn’t create or even edit new waves — but at some point today it will be gone for good, as Google will be shutting down its servers. So if you still have any waves you want to keep you’ll need to export them before the shut down happens. Wave initially launched back on May 27th, 2009, but failed to gain much in the way of user traction, and focus has since shifted to new Google products like Google+. However, as fans of Wave probably already know, the service won’t be completely dead — the Apache Software Foundation has been continuing the development of Wave since 2010, which you can check out at Wave in a Box.
