Amazon has just launched a Cloud Drive app for Mac and Windows, bringing the service out of the browser and onto the desktop. The service launched last year, but has so far required users to utilize the browser or a mobile app to manage files. Now, users will be able to drag and drop or right-click on files and folders to send them to Amazon Cloud Drive, and will be able to run transfers in the background. The service still lacks file syncing functionality, so it may not be a replacement for other cloud services yet — something Amazon should consider if it wants to compete in the big leagues of personal cloud storage. You can grab the app now for free from Amazon’s website.
