While speaking to VentureBeat, Microsoft’s Kudo Tsunoda explained that he believes that the trajectory of the Kinect motion control system will be similar. “People understand better how to develop on any kind of technology,” he explained. “You’re going to get better performance, better experiences, new inventions over time... It’s because developers are able to do more with the technology as they’ve become more experienced in working with it.”

Because of this, Tsunoda says that we won’t be seeing a second iteration of the hardware anytime soon — so you probably shouldn’t expect any Kinect 2 news to come out of E3 next month. “The next big thing isn’t about waiting for the Kinect 2,” he said. “It’s more about all the great invention that can be done in software without having to go out and spend money on a new device.” In the meantime, you’ll just have to be content yelling at dragons in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
