The age of the low-end Android handset is here: AT&T has unceremoniously announced that a new prepaid slider smartphone, the Galaxy Appeal, will debut with Android 2.3 on the carrier’s GoPhone service starting on June 5th. AT&T provided no photos or pricing for the device, but says that it will be available with AT&T’s data plans starting at 50MB for $5 a month, up to 1GB for $25 a month. The phone’s hardware defines modesty, with a 3.2-inch 480x320 touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera, 512MB RAM, and an 800MHz Cortex A5 processor. To save on costs AT&T says the Appeal is made with 80-percent recycled material, and comes with less packaging than other Samsung products.
