Microsoft announced that it will partner with Baghdad-based Legend Lands Co. to distribute its products in Iraq, bringing legal software to a market already flooded with pirated copies. The Associated Press reports that Iraq has been plagued by technology shortages following years of war and sanctions from the U.N., and Legend Lands Co. CEO Ahmed Izzedian said that his company will deliver software and provide support for government, business, and home use. The move isn’t just to get new Microsoft products into the region; the company also hopes to combat rampant software piracy and has asked the Iraqi government to approve stricter intellectual property and software usage laws.
