Apple’s provided new iPad buyers with a 2048 x 1536 screen for three months now, but Android tablets are catching up in terms of pixel density: today, you can pre-order Acer’s Iconia Tab A700, which comes with a 1920 x 1200 screen which should let you watch 1080p video at its native resolution, not to mention 178-degree viewing angles that should let you share that handheld movie with others around you.

Otherwise, the 10.1-inch tablet is pretty much identical to the company’s Iconia Tab A510 which we just reviewed, down to the exact same chassis, the same 32GB of flash storage (expandable with up to 64GB microSD cards), the same 10-point multitouch capacitive digitizer, and the same 1.3GHz Tegra 3 silicon powering Android 4.0 with Acer’s software on top. Acer suggests that the higher-resolution tablet may get slightly less battery life, quoting 10 hours of video playback compared to the 12 hours of its predecessor, which uses the same 9800mAh battery inside. The nice part is that it’ll also debut at the same $449.99 price point when it starts shipping later this month.

We’re not sure what happens to the A510 when the A700 arrives, and we have to imagine those who just bought it might feel a little miffed at the deal, but if you’re looking for higher pixel density outside of the Apple and Asus camps, this just might be your tablet. Just know that there’s also an LTE version of the Iconia Tab A700 on the way, so you may want to wait a bit longer if you’re looking for cellular connectivity too.
