Acer’s Aspire S5, the 15mm “world’s thinnest” ultrabook that was announced at CES, now has a release date in the US. As we learned last week, the 13.3-inch Ivy Bridge laptop will cost $1,399.99, and Acer has confirmed that it will be shipping in the last week of June. Microsoft had previously estimated June 25th for shipments from its own store. There aren’t any big surprises in specs either: besides a hidden Thunderbolt port and eligibility for the $14.99 Windows 8 upgrade program, you’ll be getting a 256GB solid state drive and a Core i7-3517U processor. It’s also supposed to deliver battery life cycles up to three times the normal length.

In addition to this, Acer is updating its first ultrabook, the Aspire S3. The cheaper S3 will now offer an Ivy Bridge Core i7 or i3 processor. The same 256GB solid state drive of the S5 will also be an option on the S3, and a new “champagne” color complements the standard hues. We’re not yet seeing these options for purchase, but hopefully the entire Acer ultrabook line will soon be changing for the better.
