Although it’s easy to look down on feature phone users, there’s no denying that they’d like to load up a web page from time to time. Opera has long provided a nice, bandwidth-friendly solution for those J2ME phones called Opera Mini that uses server-side data compression. The company has released version 7 of the browser, which brings it up to parity with the same version offered for Android. The new features include a “Smart Page” that connects to social networks as well as an improved bookmarking experience. It’s all based on feedback from the “Opera Mini Next” preview release from last February. The browser has also been updated for other Java-based platforms — namely Symbian S60 and BlackBerry — with essentially the same featureset plus platform-specific bugfixes. Users can visit m.opera.com from any of the above phones to download the new version.
