Shapeways 3D printing service announced this week that it has reached a milestone of one million printed and sold objects. 3D printing has been used in medicine, to create physical representations of Minecraft creations, and is becoming more popular as a result of services like Shapeways and increasingly affordable printers. Similar to services like i.materialize and Sculpteo, Shapeways provides tutorials to help users learn how to design objects, allows users to upload their completed designs, and then puts them on the site to be purchased and printed from various materials. The company will be receiving $6.2 million in financing from new partner and venture capital firm Lux Capital, and intends to use the funds to expand its "factory of the future" in New York City.
