Britpop band Blur, which has kept up a steady stream of releases since its 1990s heydey, will release a pair of new singles next week... on Twitter. Next Monday, July 2nd, the band will perform “Under the Westway” and “The Puritan” somewhere in London. Though the performance is expected to take place in secret, video of the songs will be streamed live on Twitter, one at 6:15pm BST (1:15pm EDT) and the other at 7:15pm (2:15pm). The songs will later be performed at an August 12th show in Hyde Park, so all in all, it should be quite the popscene.

Despite Twitter’s promotional potential and its increasing use as a short story platform, Blur is the first major group to release or perform songs on the network, but if this goes well (and there are no unplanned Twitter outages) it could give the band a sense of enormous well-being. They’ll just have to make sure Oasis isn’t planning to re-form and stream something at the same time.
