While Google didn’t go so far as to give all I/O attendees their own Google Glass headsets, Sergey Brin did announce that developers could get their hands on the Google Glass Explorer edition sometime early next year. As for when the rest of us will be able to try out Google’s fairly wild hardware, Sergey Brin told Bloomberg Television that a “broad consumer offering” should be ready “within a year” after the launch of the Explorer edition — that would mean Google Glass should be available to the public sometime in early 2014. That’s nearly two years away, so a lot could happen between now and then that might end up pushing Google Glass back, but consumers who were entranced by Google’s elaborate demo yesterday now have some idea of when they might be able to get their own set. Hopefully it’ll be cheaper than the $1,500 that developers will need to shell out for privilege of trying the Explorer edition.
