It’s taken a few months, but AT&T has just announced that it’ll start selling the Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate for $49.99 on contract come June 10th. The LTE phone was first announced at CES, and, as you might expect, its specs aren’t the headline feature: it’s powered by a last-generation, dual-core Snapdragon processor (read: not one of the new S4 chips), a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and a TouchWiz-skinned version of Android 2.3, Gingerbread. Samsung isn’t going for power, here, though. The phone has an enviornmentally-friendly UL Platinum rating — the highest such ranking for any LTE smartphone to-date, according to AT&T — thanks to a back casing made of 80 percent recycled post-consumer waste and a “low-load, energy-efficient” charger. The carrier has also hinted that it will be providing its own “eco-rating system” sometime this summer, which sounds like you’ll be gently guilted into buying “green” phones next time you’re shopping on the carrier’s website or in one of its stores.
