Huawei may have announced the fairly impressive Ascend D quad at MWC, but its presence in the US is still pretty sparse. Now, though, it’s released its first US LTE smartphone on MetroPCS. The 3.5-inch Activa 4G runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread on an 800MHz processor with a 5-megapixel camera, and it comes bundled with a 4GB microSD card. We’ve definitely seen better from Huawei, but this is still notable, and hopefully the company will be bringing more exciting stuff our way as well. It’s also pretty reasonably priced right now: after an instant discount and a $50 mail-in rebate, it’s $149 with no contract. That’s apparently for a limited time only, though, and the list price is $249. The Activa 4G may also be a sign that LTE’s foothold in budget markets is growing. MetroPCS currently has a few other LTE phones, including options from LG and Samsung, but the new Huawei is the cheapest so far even sans rebate.
