Verizon has decided to lock the bootloader on its variant of the Samsung Galaxy S III due to what it characterizes as customer support concerns, but Samsung is coming to the rescue — for a price. Both CNET and Android Central are reporting that the manufacturer will be offering the Samsung Galaxy S III Developer Edition, which will feature a user-unlockable bootloader, for $599. By way of comparison, the regular Verizon version starts at $199 with a two-year contract, though in all fairness the carrier does list the full retail price as $599 as well. Samsung will be selling the device direct through its own developer website, and while there’s no word yet on availability, the move is undoubtedly a welcome — if not pricey — option for those that would like to bypass the whims of Big Red.
