Nokia, Samsung, HTC, and Huawei will ship the first round of Windows Phone 8 devices running on Qualcomm chipsets, but it appears that Acer is also interesting in making another Windows Phone handset. After shipping its low-end Allegro Windows Phone in Europe last year, Acer spokesperson Chen Guowei has revealed that the company is planning to launch its first Window Phone 8 device in the second half of 2013.

iMobile reports that Guowei expressed confidence in Windows Phone, but that the Taiwan-based firm is focused on the Android platform. Microsoft is preparing to support a range of new hardware in Windows Phone 8, including multi-core processors, NFC chipsets, and new screen resolutions. The software giant is expected to launch Windows Phone 8 in late October.
